Feasibility study guides Alaska utility toward carbon reduction goals

A myriad of factors help inform energy infrastructure decisions. In Interior Alaska, Fairbanks's Golden Valley Electric Association decision makers sought the analysis and expertise of the Alaska Microgrid Group and the Alaska Center for Energy and Power.

The collaborative study provided GVEA an options analysis of current as well as alternative generation. AMG's Brian Rogers partnered with ACEP researchers to complete the report after soliciting public comments from GVEA member owners.

This study is part of a larger GVEA effort to reduce its carbon impact.

On January 21, 2019, the GVEA Board of Directors adopted an official Carbon Reduction Goal to reduce GVEA's carbon output by 26 percent by the year 2030.

More information about the report and GVEA's energy goals are located on GVEA's website at www.gvea.com/renewable-energy-2/.
